Perfect Match: Tech Careers for Your Personality - Part 2

Updated: Jun 21

Hey there! Welcome back, and thank you for joining us again! If you're new here, make sure to check out Part 1 of our "Perfect Match" series . For those returning, last time we discovered the artistic "Creator" personality type, exploring careers in UI/UX design. We also dived into the Creative Thinker Type. Today, we’ll be discovering The Thinkers personality type and its career paths. So buckle up, and let’s dive in!

Personality 3 : The Thinker

People with the 'Thinker' personality type are known for their reliance on objective reasoning to guide their decisions in life. With critical thinking abilities, they evaluate both situations and people through the lens of logic and facts [1].

So you're a natural problem-solver, thoughtful and driven by logic. You thrive on cracking complex puzzles and making systems work more efficiently, even if abstract creative tasks aren't quite your thing. If you're wondering where you fit in the tech world, rest assured: your knack for diving deep into technical issues makes you a perfect fit for many careers including backend web development and software engineering.

Backend Web Development

Back-end developers work on the unseen parts of websites and apps, focusing on server-side software which includes databases, back-end logic, APIs, and server management. They write code that enables communication between browsers and databases, ensuring the system operates efficiently and responds quickly to user requests. They usually Collaborate with front-end developers and other team members [2].This role is ideal for thinkers who excel in problem-solving and system architecture.

Confused? Think of it like this: Imagine a backstage crew at a theater, ensuring everything from lighting to sound runs smoothly to support the show. Similarly, backend developers work behind the scenes of a website , making sure all the technical elements function smoothly, so users experience a flawless performance.

So, backend developers are the backbone of any website, ensuring everything operates smoothly under the surface which brings us to our next Tech career.

Software Engineering

Software engineers are the architects of the digital world, designing and creating computer systems and applications that address real-world challenges. They not only develop and test software applications and computer systems but also enhance and maintain those created by others. Their role spans from crafting computer games to developing network control systems, requiring a deep understanding of programming languages, platforms, and architectures [3] .

Ideal for analytical thinkers who enjoy problem-solving and improving technology usability, a career in software engineering can be highly rewarding, involving project management and continuous learning to ensure the effectiveness and innovation of solutions.

So, software engineers design, develop, and test computer systems and applications to solve real-world problems. But what exactly is the difference between those engineers and backend web developers?

Back end Developers VS Software Engineers

  • Scope of Work: Backend developers are focused on web applications and handling the server side, while software engineers may work on a wider range of software projects, including both applications and systems.

  • Technical Skills: While both roles require strong programming skills, backend developers often specialize in specific databases and server-side languages, whereas software engineers have a broader range of programming and system design skills.

  • Project Involvement: Backend developers are mainly involved in activities related to web databases, server scripting, and API integration. Software engineers, meanwhile, engage in building and scaling entire software systems and may handle more of the architecture and project management aspects.
