Swansea University’s motto in Welsh is ‘Gweddw crefft heb ei dawn’ which translates into ‘Technical skill is bereft without culture’ in English

The university was first chartered in July 1920, formally known as the University College of Swansea, and its foundation stone was laid by King George V

In 1947, there were only two permanent buildings, and thus the Principal promoted the expansion of the university campus

By 1960, development was underway to include the building of new halls of residence and various academic faculties

In 2015, Swansea University constructed a completely new campus, Bay Campus, which is now home to the College of Engineering and the School of Management

There are two campuses at Swansea University, which are Bay Campus and Singleton Park Campus. Both campuses are beach-front locations, with the Bay Campus having direct access to the sea

Singleton Park Campus is located in the city center of Swansea and hosts student accommodation and faculty departments for various courses, most notably the Institute of Life Sciences, which is valued at £52 million

Bay Campus has modern student accommodation and on-site facilities. It houses the Faculty of Science and Engineering and also a Great Hall, which is a 700-seat auditorium
