BRIEF HISTORY:

  • Uppsala University, situated in Uppsala, Sweden is globally known for advancing science, higher education, and international student mobility

  • Ranked among the best research universities in the world

  • Nine faculties and over 45,000 students, 12% of which are international

  • The motto GRATIÆ VERITAS NATURÆ means "Truth through the grace of God and through nature."

  • Established in 1477, it holds the distinction of being the oldest university in Sweden and the Nordic countries that is still in operation

  • Uppsala holds significant historical importance in Swedish national culture and identity, particularly for the Swedish establishment, influencing areas such as historiography, religion, literature, politics, and music

DEGREE PROGRAMMES

  • The university comprises nine faculties organized into three disciplinary domains:

    • Humanities and Social Sciences, Medicine and Pharmacy, and Science and Technology

  • The majority of undergraduate programs at the university are conducted in Swedish, although a limited number of courses, primarily at the postgraduate level, are offered in English

  • In English, there are: 7 bachelor’s programs and 128 international master’s programmes

  • Axel Munthe- a Swedish-born physician and psychiatrist, best known as the author of The Story of San Michele

  • Rudolf Kjellén -Swedish political scientist, geographer, and politician who first coined the term "geopolitics"

CAMPUS INFO:

  • Uppsala University features eleven campus areas, offering research and education across a wide range of disciplines. Campuses areas are also famous for housing unique collections of cultural, artistic, and scientific interest

  • Uppsala itself is the fourth largest city in Sweden and a major cultural center that blends tradition with modernity which is why student life is really rich

  • Uppsala is a university with sites that include the Biomedical Centre, one of Europe’s largest for life sciences, located on an old military base, and another on the island of Gotland, a UNESCO World Heritage site
