Japanese University Requirements
for Foreign Students

Each Japanese university has its requirements for foreign students wishing to enroll, however, there are some common requirements for the majority of universities
which include:-
EJU - Examination for Japanese university admission for foreign students: Along with the English proficiency, the universities in japan also require a beginner level Japanese proficiency skills for the enrolment in their programs along with basic academic knowledge. The evaluation of this exam is based on:

Japanese as a foreign language

Science (biology, chemistry, physics)

Japan and the world (liberal arts)

Mathematics

The university decides which of the given subjects should be taken for the test and
selects the session of the examination as well which are - June and November.

The application fees of the exam depends upon the country the student resides in and
will be attending the exam from. The japanese fees for the same is JPY 10,000
(including tax) for one subject and JPY 19,000 (including tax) for two or more subjects.

The application period is decided per year and is posted on JASSO’s official website
and are divided into two sessions for foreign applications.

EJU scores remain valid for a total of two years. This means that the scores for a
maximum of four exam sessions can be simultaneously used in the admission selection
processes of universities

The procedures of the same are to be updated by the overseas representatives of Japan in the country the student is applying from.
