Count as your life depends on it!

The Maths of Life and Death:

written by Elisavet Dionysia Chiou

Mathematics is the most hated subject (at least, this is what my school’s statistics say). However, have you ever wondered how math could save your life (wow, this sounded like your 11th-grade Maths teacher, didn’t it?)? Kit Yates takes you through the mind-boggling ways math hides in everyday situations—whether you're decoding a viral outbreak or outwitting a scammer; spoiler alert: math is everywhere, even in the Laws of Justice. And no, you don’t need to be a math whiz to love this book (there are not many formulas, if any, just some mind-bending stuff). So, if you are more of a hardcore Maths lover, the upcoming book will suit you better, stay tuned).  Yates makes the most mind-numbing topics feel like a thrilling detective story, with just enough humor to make you snort-laugh.

My favorite part is where Yates talks about why countries with a “guilty until proven innocent” presumption in their criminal justice system often have higher conviction rates (spoiler alert: it has to do with Maths)

From working out your chances of surviving a zombie apocalypse—yes, apparently maths gets into that too—to simply being that one peculiar friend who would amaze others with their newfound knowledge of cool, non-boring Math, The Maths of Life and Death is your book. Think of it like a Maths class you want to attend—with fewer equations and way more "aha" moments.
